Homework Part 1:
Assigned: Thursday(Friday), September 14th(15th)
Due: Monday, September 18th

Read Chapter 4.  Begin creating a graphic organizer for this unit.  Notice we still have several lessons after this lesson, so leave room for future notes.  On your graphic organizer, be sure to include ANY and ALL notes and tricks that helped you.  Even minor things such as "bins" and the axises in the histograms, it tends to be forgotten later, better include it now.  As you read Chapter 4, pay extra close attention to the last pages, the section "What Can go Wrong?".  Your graphic organizer may be only 1 page, front and back.  Show me your graphic organizer on Monday when your arrive to class. Best ones will receive extra credit.

Homework Part 2:
Assigned: Monday, September 18th
Due: next class period.

Pg. 72-76 #13-15 all, finish 19-22 all, 27
Must do #15 by HAND!  You may use your calculator to verify your answer, but all work must be shown!

Z-Scores

Homework:
Assigned: Thursday(Friday), September 28th (in class assignment!)
Pg. 129-133 #3-11 all, 16-32 evens, 33-36 all

Teacher note: Have students learn how to read Data Table and complete without calculator first!

Note: Today is a Work in Class Day.  Experience has taught me some students understand standard deviation, normal distributions, and z-score calculations right away and many need to keep practicing.  Whatever we don't finish in class today, will be due next class.

Finish Your Unit 1 Graphic Organizer.  Read Chapter 5 and 6 and add any and all necessary notes from those chapters to your graphic organizer.  Last but not least, you may use this organizer on the Group Quiz on Tuesday(Wednesday) and again on Thursday(Friday) during the Unit 1 test.

Graphic Organizer Amazing Model
Graphic Organizer and Studying for the Test:
Do you know:
- How to find the standard deviation by hand?
- What the Z-score formula is and what it does?
- That Z-scores never change?
- Be careful of the TRAP!  Measures of Center/Position: all operations apply.  Measures of spread, only affected by multiplication and division.
- Calculate the mean given two different groups?
- If you have skewed data! Use the IQR and the Median, every time!
- And since you are using the IQR and the Median, think about your threshold formulas Q3 + 1.5IQR and Q1 - 1.5IQR and how you would draw a boxplot!
- If you have normal data! Use the mean and standard deviation!
- A Standardized Normal Distribution Curve (or z-score curve) will always have 3 tick marks to the right and 3 tick marks to the left.
- If you are asked to graph percentages, chances are pie charts, bar graphs, segmented bar graphs and maybe histograms are the way to go.
- If you are asked about time, time plots are a great option, but histograms might work as well.
